Protect and Preserve Your Landscaping in Tampa by Installing Sprinklers

Irrigation Repair: Do-It-Yourself Maintenance

Many times you need a professional for irrigation repair services. However, regular maintenance done by you protects the system and saves money. A small tune-up that is regularly performed will keep larger problems from occurring in the future. There are three common things you should do to maintain your sprinkler system.

When doing Irrigation Repair, Check Valves and Heads Individually

If the valves are above ground, it is best to routinely check them. Look for leaks, puddles, or drips around the valves. If the valves are below ground they tend not to leak. Problems with below ground valves involve not shutting off completely. Inspect the heads with underground valves. If there is a puddle or dripping, the problem might be the valve. This may require a professional to replace the valves.

Adjust Sprinklers to Save Water

Many times the system will spray water on driveways or roads. This issue dries out areas and is a waste of water. For spray sprinklers, adjust the screw on top of each spray nozzle. If the problem is mist, adjust the screw clockwise. For rotor sprinklers, turn the screw clockwise until it hits the water stream. When it is touching the water stream, slightly adjust the screw counter-clockwise so the water stream no longer touches it. This may take a few tries to find the right spot.

Irrigation Repair: Check the Battery

Make sure the control system gets set on the correct date and time. If there is a power outage and the current date and time don’t reappear, the battery needs replaced. It is a good idea to check the battery at least once every year. Most batteries need replaced after two years. This seems simple yet many people forget to regularly schedule a battery check of their sprinkler system.

These three checks will help keep your irrigation system working properly. They will keep the system running smoothly and save you money in the long run. However, you may need professional help to fix major issues. Contact us today for help with major issues and to learn more about keeping your system running right.
